WCLM-1450 AM, the last independent, African-American-owned radio station in Richmond, is off the air after 21 years.

Richmond Free Press reports WCLM-1450 AM, whose tagline is heart & soul is off the air as of December 29, 2017.

The city’s last African-American owned and operated radio station began broadcasting in 1996.

According to the publication, the station’s former general manager, and part owner, Preston T. Brown filed a legal complaint against the new owners alleging failure to pay agreed upon salary.

The new radio station uses call letters WUWN. It began broadcasting ad-free in November while simulcasting over WBTL-1540 AM.

Brown now streams local programming at Richmondsoulradio.com
